I don’t mean to pick on Dickie Bush again, I really don’t. I like most of what he writes about, and a lot of his writing tips are fantastic.
But…
He wrote this on Twitter today:

Once again, us regular people do not have time for all of this.
Here’s my writing routine:
Go to bed not thinking about writing at all. (My brain needs time to shut down. It’s time for Wordle and a good murder mystery book.)
Hope that my hormones don’t act up and make me too hot or that I don’t wake up in the middle of the night thinking about 6,876 things that need to be done the next day.
Wake up, brush my teeth, and get ready for the day. Clean the cat puke. Feed the cats. More cat puke. Awesome. Take the dog out. Feed the dog. Clean the cat litter boxes.
Ah, it’s finally time for coffee and to
start writing.Oops! Out of time. Make my daughter’s breakfast and take her to school.
We are not the same, Dickie.
I’m not the only one who feels this way:

I don’t know Thiro, but in his bio he says he’s a father of 3 and helping parents with their productivity.
We need more common-sense tips from other parents!
P.S. This is why it’s hard to love Twitter/X. The replies to Dickie’s post are so…lifeless.

Let me know what your writing routine looks like in the comments! I’d love to see it.

My writing routine: no routine.
I'm messy when it comes to writing. I might not write for a whole month, and then one day I get inspiration and write all day for the next week. If I try and create a system or routine for my writing, it becomes a chore.
This is an exact example of 'cruel optimism', something I only recently learned about.
And this type of content is all over LinkedIn and X. I hate it; It's also why I started my newsletter 😂 it's just so unrealistic.
