Why I'm Not Leaving Medium (Even if My Earnings Are Tanking)
I agree there are ongoing issues there, but...
Everyone’s doing it.
They’re flying the coop and saying adios to Medium.
is the latest to say goodbye to the platform.Top Medium writer
said goodbye last August.
Even though I 100% agree with everything Tom said in his article, and my earnings are tanking, I’m still not doing it.
I’m not leaving Medium.
The biggest reason why?
I’m an eternal optimist. For good or bad.
Let me share my reasons why I’m not leaving Medium anytime soon.
1. People are still doing well there
I see complaints all over Medium (and all over Substack about Medium) about how terrible it is lately. I agree with everyone’s assessments. I get frustrated too.
Yet…
There are still people doing well there, which gives me hope.
Here’s a post from Bin Jiang who’s made $420+ in the first two weeks of December.
In Bin’s post, Aleena said she’s made $190 so far:

Paul Walker says he wrote 14 stories in November and made $1468:
- is still doing very well, even without getting boosted.
If these writers can have good results, so can we.
2. Traffic to Hustling Housewife
Hustling Housewife is now my official newsletter, and I need a way to drive traffic to it. Medium is a great way to do that!
Yes, there are all kinds of tools within Substack to grow your newsletter, but why not try to get outside traffic, too?
3. It has excellent domain authority
I learned in
’s $5k in 30 Days Workshop that Medium has a domain authority of 95/100.That means you can write articles using a little SEO and have a pretty good chance to rank in Google, Google News, and other search engines.
She explained how this has benefits that extend beyond external traffic. (You’ll want to learn all about this - and more - in her excellent workshop. I highly recommend it.)
4. I still prefer writing there over other platforms
I’m finally getting my groove on Substack, but I still think it’s much trickier to use compared to Medium.
I still have trouble finding my way around here and it has a ton of bells and whistles. That’s good for growing your Substack, but it’s easy to get distracted (and lost).
I prefer the clean and simple layout of Medium.
I can go in, write something up, and post it quickly and without too much distraction.
These are the 4 main reasons I won’t be leaving Medium, but I think
sums it up perfectly in this YouTube video:How about you? Are you leaving or staying?

See you Saturday! 👋 I plan on giving you an update on my short-form versus long-form posts. (I wrote about that experiment here.)
Some things have been moving in the past couple of days…
I still hold out hope that they'll figure out what they've been doing is a huge mistake and readjust. The CEO seems to really believe in his plan and I know they're doing what they think is best, but the Boost has been a *disaster*.
They're also so fixated on publications that they've now reversed what you see first on posts from the writer to the pub.
I don't know about anyone else but I'm there for specific writers, not random publications.
It's a bit of a mess but I'm playing the long game ... if all the other big writers leave, I'll be one of the only ones left. And if they readjust the payment system after that, it'll be $$$.
As long as something is generating income, I am all for it. Its as simple as that.
