Here's how I plan on kickstarting my Gumroad sales again
I'm using 3 simple ways to promote my updated ebook
Writing ebooks and selling them via Gumroad has been fantastic for me. Here are my sales so far:
But…
I’ve been slacking in this area lately because I didn’t have anything new to offer. And while my Medium Money book has contributed to most of those sales, I didn’t want to promote it while the platform was unstable.
I started bleeding money over there, and I’m quite sure no one wants to buy a book about making money on a platform where the author is struggling to make money.
But I was determined to figure things out and get my earnings back up.
It worked!
Now my earnings are better than ever:
(Side note: April’s earnings are as of April 10th.)
I gave my Medium Money book a refresh and added new information based on the recent changes.
But now the harder part comes in…
…promoting it.
Here’s how I plan to do it.
1. Create a sales page on Substack
I’m going to practice the copywriting skills I’m learning from Ben Settle and create a sales page dedicated to my updated book.
I debated whether I should create it on my website or here on Substack.
I decided to try it out on Substack.
Let’s call it a new experiment. Experiments are fun. 😁
I’ll create a new post, but I won’t send it out via email. It’ll just live on my Substack. Probably somewhere in the menu:
2. Write a “writing tips” post on Medium
The next part of my plan will be to write a helpful writing tips post on Medium. I see so many people complaining that they can’t even make a dollar.
I can usually see why right away once I click on their profiles. So, I’m going to point out some common flaws I see and provide suggestions to fix them.
(The tricky part will be writing it in a way that’s not Medium Meta since those articles aren’t allowed behind the paywall anymore.)
Then, I’ll do what
always suggests, and add an embedded link to my sales page in the article. That way, if people want more help, they can check out the book.
It’s always a great idea to provide as much value as possible first, then ask for the sale. (And the sale is just providing even more help.)
3. Continue to embed the sales page link
While the “writing tips” post will help kick this off, I’ll continue adding the embedded sales page link to other articles on Medium.
I’ve been writing a lot about personal finance, and I’d love to test how it does in those articles. I assume people who are struggling with their finances are looking for ways to earn a little more money.
It may be a flop, but I’ll never know unless I try!
I can also go into some of my popular older posts that still get views and add the link in those too.
Updated Gumroad sales page
I was hoping to have the sales page done and the Medium article written already, but I ran out of time (and mental head space).
But I did manage to get the Gumroad sales page updated with new images and sales copy.
I’ll continue to revise it as I write up the sales page on Substack.
Final Thoughts
I hope this post was helpful in some way. A lot of people ask how I promote my ebooks, and that’s why I wanted to write about it here.
I wish I had fancier ideas for you, but I keep things simple because that’s how I roll. I’ll get the rest of my promotional materials done and update you how everything went next week.
Until next time… 🤘🏻
P.S. I also just created this ad banner that I’ll test out sometimes:
Is it too loud and sales-y? Let me know in the comments.
I like the banner Christina. I'm planning on bringing out an e-book this year so your experience definitely helps! More on that would be great :)
No, I don’t think it is. It’ll grab people’s attention, that’s for sure!
